Quality Assessment and Improvement
Quality is the foundation for any healthcare service
It helps to ensure that patients receive the care and treatment they need, especially when supported by robust governance and structures that drive continuous improvement and learning. At Baxendale, we recognise the importance of delivering high-quality services. We assist organisations in identifying gaps and challenges, helping them to prepare for assessments, while also offering support for improvement and recovery when things don’t go as planned.
The Challenge
Rising demand for patient services – Organisations are increasingly delivering services in highly challenging environments. Increasing patient numbers and growing waiting lists put pressure on services to remain safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
Evolving CQC frameworks and assessments – Keeping up with constant changes in CQC requirements can be difficult for organisations trying to stay current and compliant.
Inspection delays and backlogs – Some organisations haven't been inspected for up to 10 years due to a significant backlog at CQC. This adds pressure to secure a positive rating, as otherwise organisations can be stuck with a negative rating which can impact their ability to secure new business, funding and staff.
The Solution
At Baxendale, we offer two tailored services to support organisations in quality assessment and improvement.
Review, Assessment, and Preparation
We work with organisations to enhance their quality processes, structures, and governance.
Improvement and Recovery
If a CQC inspection highlights unsuspected quality and safety issues, and/or didn’t result in the desired rating, we offer guidance and support through the recovery process.
1. Review, Assessment, and Preparation
We work with organisations to enhance their quality processes, structures, and governance, typically through the following steps:
1. Organisational Quality Review – We conduct a comprehensive review to identify best practices and potential gaps.
2. Self-Assessments – We help organisations perform self-assessments aligned with the CQC framework, enabling teams to gather evidence and identify areas requiring improvement.
3. Moderation and Analysis – We assist with analysing collected data, triangulating it with our review findings, and highlighting the highest-priority gaps.
4. Improvement Planning – We collaborate with teams to develop and implement improvement plans that foster ongoing growth.
5. Continuous improvement – We develop the mechanisms for effective, regular monitoring of key quality metrics to support ongoing compliance and improvement .
6. CQC Preparation - We also help with broader CQC preparation, working with teams to ensure they are ready for assessment day.
2. Improvement and Recovery
If a CQC inspection highlights unsuspected quality and safety issues, and/or didn’t result in the desired rating, we offer guidance and support through the recovery process. This includes:
1. Initial responses to CQC – If you've received a Section 29a or Section 31 notice, or need to respond to CQC regarding specific regulations, we can assist with developing effective responses and creating immediate action plans.
2. Improvement Planning – We support broader improvement efforts, addressing specific concerns highlighted in the CQC report, including Must and Should Do action planning.
3. Improvement Delivery – We help drive the execution of action plans to ensure continuous improvement across the organisation, ensuring sustained positive change.
4. Embedding quality management systems – To ensure that the organisation is best setup to continually improve quality, with early warning systems in place to highlight emerging issues and effective governance to address these issues.
